Additional ALS 40th birthday challenge achieved

Earlier in 2020 ALS' Managing Director set the ALS international team a birthday challenge as well as an additional challenge for himself.
We are pleased to announce that today saw him achieve his goal of cycling to the office over 40 times in 2020 (around 100km round trip). Congratulations René!

Oversized cargo logistics specialist ALS’ Managing Director René Van de Vin set colleagues across the international group a personal challenge to celebrate the company’s landmark birthday.
“As part of the birthday celebrations ALS would like our “exceptionally committed” teams to set a personal goal to mark the occasion.
The health and mental wellbeing of our teams is of utmost importance to ALS, therefore I decided to encourage the teams to set themselves a goal.
My idea is for everyone to pick a new challenge to work towards in 2020 that they could do with colleagues or individually.” said René.
Colleagues have set challenges from training towards their first marathon (over 40 kms), completing 40 runs, hikes or cycling trips within the year.
“Last year I completed a Marathon to motivate everyone for a challenge but the actual challenge is of course for 2020.
The challenge I have set myself is to ride to the office by bicycle at least 40 times this year. A round trip is approximately 100 km per trip which will take me over 4,000 kms once I have achieved the challenge.
I must admit I’m using an electric (speed-) bike but it is still quite a distance to cover and as I’m used to running I feel that my muscles need to adjust to the cycling.
The trip takes me between 1hr 15 and 1hr 30 (one way) depending on the (direction and strength of the) wind but it’s very relaxing and rewarding.
By car it takes me close to an hour so I don’t lose that much time which is a great advantage.
Due to the Covid-19 restrictions on travelling I have been able to cycle more than initially planned.”
