Flanges and cable drums transported by road

From St Helens to Hartlepool, UK

21st February 2014

The expertise and knowledge of ALS UK International's in house escort and permit team and operational colleagues in Hull was brought into play once again and a solution was found for transporting two x 7 metre diameter flanges on the UK's roads.

At this diameter it meant that the 7.5 Tonne flanges were too wide to be transported to their final destination by road, therefore they were loaded at an angle in a tilt frame to reduce their width to 6 metres.

A 30 cm wafer deck low loader was used to transport the flanges to maximise the angle and reduce the transport width as much as possible.

ALS' in house permit and escort team carried out the route surveys on the UK's west and east coast at the collection point and delivery destination and ALS' team accompanied the cargo en route along with maintaining close contact with the necessary authorities to ensure that the movement went smoothly.

Merseyside police provided 4 police vehicles to assist the move, which involved the removal of several items of street furniture in the St Helens area.
