Mobile Offshore Production Unit (Riser) move
ALS has successfully shipped a Mobile Offshore Production Unit (MOPU) Riser, on behalf of a global player in the Offshore Industry, from Dunkirk to Abu Dhabi.
25th October 2010
The Riser measured an impressive 71.48m long, 4.36m diameter and with a substantial weight of 448 tons.
Due to the exceptional and challenging dimensions and weight of the unit, ALS Ocean Project team, based in the ALS Moerdijk office (NL), was able to charter a vessel with an unobstructed hold length of 75 meters and therefore able to carry the piece with safe point load of the ships bottom, to sustain the weight of 448 tons.
Due to the private unloading jetty at Mussafah Terminal in Abu Dhabi being low drafted and very restricted for manoeuvring, WWL ALS had to firstly arrange the shifting of the Riser cargo from below-deck to above-deck of the ship in the commercial port area of Abu Dhabi, whereafter the ship was ballasted up to a suitable level to safely unload at site in Mussafah yard terminal Abu Dhabi.
The ALS Ocean Project Department was responsible for the charter, loading and lashing plan, method statement, risk assessment and completion of the transport manual.
To ensure the operation ran smoothly, ALS employed a qualified surveyor at both ports.
The MOPU-riser was the heaviest and longest single piece ALS has ever transported to date.
