Long Bridge Transportation
The ALS team in Hull worked closely with their client Lifespan Bridges, the contractor R&C Williams and their supplier to deliver a new Lifespan FRP bridge safely to the Peak District.
11th December 2024
Installed by the military in the 1980s, the original bridge had become structurally unsafe and therefore condemned and closed in 2020. The bridge has now been replaced with a material using more than 26,000 recycled plastic bottles, which in turn, saved these from landfill.
Challenges – Narrow Peak District Dale
As it was a complex project, the team arranged for a route survey to be carried out to assess the tight road restrictions through the area and, site access.
The long bridge deck was collected from Rotterdam on a rear steer extendable trailer.
Dimensions of load: L:21m x W:1.5m x H:1.5m / 3.5ton
With the new bridge now in place, it will once again be accessible and enjoyed by the local communities and visitors providing a connection to adjoining routes, several villages and the much loved Monsal trail.
The Cresswell Bridge is more than just a crossing; it is a bridge to a sustainable future.
Scope of work:
