Bridge sections for Eastern Bay Link Road

MV Team Spirit commissioned for second consignment of 23 bridge sections

12th December 2016

ALS marine and permit/ escort teams provided ships agency and supervision of the discharge of MV Team Spirit including delivery of pieces to storage areas and direct to site for a second consignment of 23 bridge sections for the new Eastern Bay Link Road, Cardiff, UK from Spain. These sections ranged in size from 24m to 51m in length.

The ALS team were asked to supply agency back up, crane lifting, dock operations and transport of the beams to a storage facility and then direct to site thereafter.

The first part of the operation was to discharge the 18 large beam sections and 5 smaller skids to shore using a Liehberr 1750 crane. Once each piece was discharged from the ship they were taken by a self propelled modular trailer (SPMT) to one of two storage areas where they were placed on stools until further movement within the docks.

The last part of the project was to take some of the larger 50m long pieces from the storage area, again using an SPMT (self propelled modular trailer), to site.
