Project Cargo Movements – Coordination and Chartering Considerations

Project Overview

The ALS operations team was delighted to be commissioned to manage the logistics for a large energy company based in Greece. This complex, multi-phase cargo movement required careful planning, international coordination, and on-site execution to ensure all shipments were delivered safely and on time.

Pre-Movement Planning

Prior to cargo movement, a Project Specialist from ALS’s Hull office met with the client’s UK representatives. These on-sites meetings were crucial in developing a robust plan that ensured all cargo operations on the could be executed efficiently and safely.

Phase 1: Portugal to Cheshire, UK

The initial movement involved transporting project cargo from Portugal to Cheshire, UK.

  • Transport Method: 1 x flat bed with twist locks
  • Cargo Specs: 8-tonne container (6.06m L x 2.44m W x 2.89m H)
  • Delivery Coordination: Managed by ALS Hull

Phase 2: India and China to UK

This phase comprised two shipments arriving at various UK ports:

Shipment 1 – India to UK:

Ports of Arrival: Southampton & Felixstowe

Cargo Details:

  • 13 x 40’ flat racks
  • 4 x 40’ flat racks
  • 1 x 20’ container

Shipment 2 - China - UK

Port of Arrival: Immingham

Cargo Details:

  • 20ft and 40ft dry containers

Additionally, 40 cases/crates (totalling 398 tonnes and 4196m³) were received and moved within the Immingham terminal per the ship’s manifest.

ALS Scope of Work

ALS’s scope of services included:

  • Receiving cargo post liner out hook
  • Hooking off and shoreside stevedoring
  • Oncarriage to site using trailers
  • Terminal handling charges (THC) at origin and destination
