ALS charters vessel for 440T Sugar Refinery

ALS (Freight Management Nederland) BV’s Moerdijk Ocean Project team chartered a vessel for the shipment of a sugar refinery from Antwerp to Bahrain.

10th August 2012

The ALS project team was appointed to source a suitable vessel by their client, which could load 85 pieces for the dismantled refinery to be reconstructed in Bahrain. This cargo had been previously stored for more than 1 year in Antwerp awaiting the customer’s final approval to arrange shipment.

ALS’ ocean project team had to work swiftly as they were asked on a Thursday to find a suitable vessel to load on the following Monday!

After an intensive search the Moerdijk team succeeded and found a vessel able to load the 85 pieces, totalling 2,400 m³ and 440 tons below and on deck.

The ALS team also arranged for boxes loaded on deck to be further protected with a tarpaulin cover.

ALS colleagues (including a new colleague in training) were in attendance to check all cargo was safely loaded on to the vessel in Antwerp. Loading took more than 1 day and photographs were taken on behalf of ALS’ client before the vessel set sail on her 22 day voyage directly to Bahrain.

A further shipment for another part of the sugar refinery to move from Korea to Bahrain has been confirmed, which the Moerdijk team are busy planning for.
