Completion of South African crane survey
ALS (International) Limited’s internal marine and cargo surveyor has been commissioned by a South African company to inspect / survey second hand cranes for the Southern African market.
17th May 2012
Based in the UK ALS' surveyor travelled to Germany to assess the condition of the crane on behalf of ALS' client and the bank issuing the Letter of Credit for the purchase.
In order to fully assess the condition of generally unseen components of the crane’s undercarriage, it was necessary to crawl under the unit in 3 inches of snow to check the unit for oil leaks, corrosion and the state of the brushes on suspension and steering linkages.
Further close attention was paid to the condition of the hydraulic cylinders, the cable winding mechanism, the main boom brushings and the electrical apparatus and controls in the operators’ stations.
The survey and the ensuing report were conducted to Lloyd’s standards and have met with the full approval of the client and the financial institution in South Africa.
On the basis of a considered degree of high professional standards, the ALS appointed Marine Surveyor was commissioned to undertake all of the pre-purchase surveys for this particular client.
